If you've ever left an eye exam unsure what the doctor actually checked, you'll notice the difference here. A comprehensive eye exam at Envision Eye Center is a full evaluation of how well you see and how healthy your eyes are, and we make sure you leave understanding both.
What's included in your comprehensive exam
Every exam is tailored to you, but most include:
- Vision & refraction, a precise, up-to-date prescription for glasses and contacts.
- Eye-health evaluation, screening for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic changes.
- Retinal imaging, a detailed look at the back of your eye, often without dilation drops.
- Binocular vision check, how well your eyes work together, a common (and missed) source of eye strain and headaches.
- Your history, reviewed, medications, screen time, family eye history and the things that actually affect your eyes.

Who it's for
Comprehensive exams are for everyone, whether you've noticed blurry vision, headaches or eye strain, you're due for an annual check, or it's simply been a while. Wear contacts, have diabetes, or are over 60? An annual comprehensive exam is especially important, and we'll tell you what your eyes need.
Bringing the kids? See pediatric eye exams. Worried about a child's worsening prescription? Myopia management can help slow it down. Tired eyes from screens all day? Ask about anti-fatigue lenses.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a comprehensive eye exam take?
Plan for about 45–60 minutes. Because we don't double-book exam lanes, you get unhurried time with your doctor and a clear explanation of everything we find.
How often should I get an eye exam?
Most adults should have a comprehensive exam every one to two years, and yearly if you wear contacts, have a condition like diabetes, or are over 60. Kids benefit from a yearly exam too.
Will my eyes be dilated?
Often we can evaluate the back of your eye with retinal imaging instead of drops. When dilation is the best choice for your eye health, we'll explain why before we do it.
Do you take my insurance?
We're in-network with VSP, Cigna, Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, United, Humana and Medicare, and we verify your benefits before your visit. No vision insurance? Ask about transparent self-pay pricing.
